HARARE – Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission chairperson Loice Matanda-Moyo is now working from home after suspected robbers broke into her office in Mt Pleasant over the weekend, the anti-graft body said on Monday.

ZACC spokesman John Makamure said police were investigating the break-in, but would not disclose what was taken.

Matanda-Moyo’s office would have documents sent up to her for review, but she is unlikely to be the only one with a copy, one security expert said.

Police would now be trying to establish if the break-in was aimed at removing documents from her office or purely the work of thieves looking for anything to steal.

Matanda-Moyo is recently widowed following the Covid-19 death of her husband, the former foreign affairs minister Sibusiso Moyo.

The ZACC is a constitutional body thrust at the heart of Zimbabwe’s anti-corruption fight. It regularly says it is investigating dozens of high-profile government officials and private individuals for corruption, but its critics say apart from pursuing critics of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, it has had disappointing results.
