HARARE – Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu says attacks targeted at Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters in parts of the country were pure acts of criminality which had nothing to do with his party.

The main opposition has accused Zanu PF of involvement in acts of retribution against its supporters and polling agents in outlying areas such as Chiredzi and Uzumba Maramba-Pfungwe where homes have been torched.

But Mpofu told journalists after a meeting with Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) senior officials at the Zanu PF headquarters in Harare Tuesday that the alleged abuses should be reported to the police instead.

“Some of the issues that they have raised are issues that we have not been favoured with the kind of information,” Mpofu said.

“But they seem to revolve around criminality.

“If people have been assaulted or have been beaten up, it’s a matter for the police to deal with.”

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches has been a vocal interest group in the running of Zimbabwean elections last month.

Speaking at the same event, ZCC general secretary, Reverend Wilfred Dimingu said it was time Zimbabweans put the hangover of the disputed polls aside and “move on”.

“We are just coming out of harmonised elections and as a country, we need to move on to unite the nation and to walk together.

“So, we are here to exchange notes with the leadership of Zanu PF and explore the areas where the church can also participate in nation building issues and also unite our people as a nation, also unite our people as a nation,” he said.
