HARARE – The ministry of primary and secondary education has released a full school calendar for 2021 as it hopes for normalcy after virus disruptions.

The government on Tuesday announced that schools would open for the delayed first term on March 15 for examination classes and March 22 for the rest of the grades.

In a public notice on Thursday, the primary and secondary education ministry secretary Tumisang Thabela announced that the first term would conclude on June 4.

There are eight public holidays in the first term – the Easter holidays in early April, Independence Day, Workers’ Day and Africa Day.

The second term will start on June 28 and conclude on September 10, while the third term gets underway on October 4 and closes on December 17.

Thabela said the first term of 2022 is expected to start normally on January 10.

The coronavirus, first detected in Zimbabwe in March last year, has caused widespread disruption to learning. The government says all grades will begin by catching up on 2020 work and follow a compressed syllabus.
