HARARE – The Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) has warned registration centres against short-changing prospective candidates through pegging deadlines that fell far ahead of the official registration date set by government.

In a statement Tuesday, ZIMSEC moved to reinforce its earlier designating of 14 April 2023 as the deadline for November Ordinary and Advanced Level examination registration.

The announcement follows reports that numerous registration centres across the country had pegged 30 March as the deadline, creating uproar from parents and candidates.

In a statement Tuesday, the examination council urged centres not to set deadlines that disadvantage candidates.

“Centres are hereby advised that although they may wish to set deadlines which allow for administration of entries, those deadlines should not disadvantage any candidate through failure to register.

“Deadlines should allow for payment of fees in currencies of the parents’ choices for onward submission to ZIMSEC in the currency which they received.

“Contrary to reports that some centres have set closing dates for 30 March 2023, we hereby advise the nation that ZIMSEC 2023 November examination registration closing date is still 14 April 2023.”

ZIMSEC said examination fees which government pegged in US dollars, are also payable in local currency.

“Examination registration fees are pegged in USD and parents can make payments in ZWL, USD, and ZAR.

“Those who would like to make payments in ZWL will use the interbank rate which shall be communicated by ZIMSEC on the 4th of April 2023.

“The interbank rate prevailing for that period will apply for the period of the 4th of April to the 14th of April 2023,” said the examination authority.

ZIMSEC urged all centres to adhere to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s circulars on the administration of centres or schools during holidays.
