KWEKWE – Ten people died and dozens others suffered varying degrees of injuries in a head-on collision involving two buses near Kwekwe.

The two buses, one operated by Govasburg Services and another by Mandeep Tours, collided between Redcliff and the Gweru tollgate shortly after 4Am on Sunday.

The Mandeep Tours bus was coming from Musina in South Africa heading towards Kwekwe, while the Govasburg Services bus was heading to South Africa.

Nyathi said 10 people were confirmed dead on the spot, and and an 11th passenger had died on admission at Kwekwe Hospital.

Pictures from the scene showed the two buses almost stuck to each other at the front, with groceries lying scattered around. The bus from South Africa is believed to have been carrying cross-border traders and shoppers.
