Highlanders 3-0 Dynamos

BULAWAYO – The biggest match on the domestic football calendar had been delayed by over a month – but Highlanders wasted no time asserting themselves over bitter rivals Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

Poor defending from a corner allowed Tafadzwa Sibanda to nod the hosts ahead just after 14 minutes.

The two teams, who find themselves in unfamiliar territory languishing in mid-table, were willed on by partisan supporters who created an electric atmosphere at one of the most hallowed of football grounds.

The match remained fairly poised until nine minutes from the end when once again Dynamos defenders lost sight of their man and Highlanders skipper Gabriel Nyoni doubled their lead with a firm header from another corner.

And with Dynamos players piling forward chasing a late face saver, they lost possession deep inside the Highlanders half and Nyoni raced into acres of space on the Highlanders right before his cross was coolly controlled by Newman Sianchili who fired in their third. Highlanders fans were in seventh heaven.

The visitors were missing the guidance of their coach Lloyd Mutasa, away in Brazzaville with the national team as assistant to Sunday Chidzambwa.
