HARARE – A police officer stabbed his stepdaughter 15 times with a pair of scissors after she cried during a violent sexual attack, police say.

Constable Moses Nigel Jalasi, 27, fled their home at the ZRP-owned Northampton Flats in Eastlea, Harare, after the killing last Friday but was apprehended on Saturday.

Police say Jalasi was home with Olga Nyasha Unganai, 20, when he her rape and murder ordeal started. They shared the home with Olga’s 41-year-old mother, also a police officer.

“During the rape, the now deceased is alleged to have cried and this prompted the accused to stab her 15 times in the abdomen and throat using a pair of scissors,” according to an internal police memo dated May 10, which was seen by ZimLive.

Jalasi left the pair of scissors on a stool and fled. He was arrested in Mbare on Saturday while walking bare foot with mud on his clothes.

Jalasi is due in court on Monday charged with rape and murder.
