HARARE – Zimbabwe Cricket has named its new captains for all forms of the game.
Sean Williams is the new Test Captain while Chamu Chibhabha was the surprise pick as captain of the One Day International and Twenty20 teams.
Zimbabwe Cricketsaid Tuesday the picks, made on the recommendations of former captain and current director of cricket Hamilton Masakadza, were on an “interim basis”.
Masakadza said: “The role of captain is an honour and a responsibility which Sean and Chamu thoroughly deserve, both of them being exceptional players and great servants of our game over the years.
“I’m delighted that they have accepted their new roles and I extend my congratulations to them and wish them all the best as they help to take Zimbabwe to the next level.”
Williams has played 179 international matches, while Chibhabha, with 139 international games to his name, has not played a game in more than a year. He last featured in a T20 series against South Africa in October 2018.
There is also a new selection panel comprising of David Mutendera, Gavin Ewing, Shepherd Makunura and Prosper Utseya.
The other support staff members are: Lalchand Rajput (head coach), Dilip Chouhan (manager), Stuart Matsikenyeri (batting coach), Douglas Hondo (bowling coach), Walter Karimanzira (strength and conditioning trainer), Lovemore Banda (logistics manager) and Darlington Majonga (media manager).
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is in negotiations with Cricket Australia which could see the country’s first tour Down Under since 2004.
Cricket Australia is understood to be still negotiating with Zimbabwe about the exact dates for the one-day series in the top end around July-August.
