IT’S not a good scandal, before Nando’s has the final word.
The irreverent Portuguese restaurant, known for their witty advertising, has weighed in on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s reported refusal to give the opposition a complete voters’ roll in the only way they know how.
Zimbabweans go to elections on Monday, and it would appear the grillers of the tastiest chicken are as bemused as many Zimbabweans by ZEC’s apparent intransigence.
So what will they do about it? Well, easy. They have their own voters’ roll – just buy a meal and you get it for free.
No, it’s not your paper roll with voter names and other personal details – it’s a bread ROLL. Funny right?
Nando’s have made it a habit to use some of the most controversial stories of the moment to bring comic relief.
Some of the targets of their caustic humour have been former President Robert Mugabe, former South African President Jacob Zuma and the Gupta family, who became famous for industrial scale corruption of government ministers in South Africa.
Nando’s, famed for their chicken which is cooked in Peri Peri sauce, was created by Portuguese immigrants living in Mozambique in 1987. The franchise has grown around the world including in countries such as South Africa, Zimbabwe and Britain.
