BULAWAYO – A ZUPCO bus ferrying Zanu PF supporters to a rally in Nkayi overturned on Sunday killing one person and injuring 25 others, police said.
The bus was travelling from Lusulu in Binga.
National police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the bus with 34 passengers “veered off the road before overturning and landing on its side” near Lupane at around 4.30AM.
Dozens of buses from around the country started disgorging Zanu PF supporters in Nkayi early Sunday ahead of a rally addressed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is seeking re-election in elections on August 23.
Roads leading to Nkayi are notoriously hazardous after years of neglect.
