HARARE – A Harare man who allegedly assaulted Masvingo South MP Tanatsiwa Mukomberi accusing him of having an affair with his wife appeared in court Friday charged with assault and malicious damage to property.
Wilson Mutambwani, 38, of Braeside was released on $200 bail by Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo.
The incident allegedly took place at Cresta Lodge on May 20.
Tafadzwa Jambawu, for the prosecution, said Mutambwani went to the hotel at around 7PM to attend a meeting with one of his clients.
He parked his vehicle in the car park and went into the hotel.
At around 8.30PM, he finished the meeting and went to the car park intending to go home.
“Upon arrival in the car park, he saw his wife Rejoice Govera’s vehicle, a white Nissan Xtrail parked in the hotel car park. He enquired from one of the security guards about the whereabouts of the owner of the Nissan Xtrail and was informed that it was left by a female adult who went on to board a Ford Ranger Raptor double cab and left the premises,” the court heard.
Mutambwani suspected his wife of infidelity and deflated the Nissan Xtrail’s tyres. He waited in the car park for her return.
At around 4.40PM, Mukomberi arrived in the park driving a Ford Ranger Raptor and parked close to the Nissan Xtrail for Govera to disembark.
Mutambwani aggressively approached the vehicle before the doors had opened.
“He knocked on the driver’s side window before producing a Blow F92 toy pistol and pointed it at Mukomberi ordering him to disembark from the motor vehicle,” Jambawu alleged.
“Mukomberi opened the door and was pulled out of the car by Mutambwani. The accused person started assaulting the complainant with open hands and booted feet accusing him of having an affair with his wife.”
Mutambwani, the court heard, then took a stone and struck the windscreen of Mukomberi’s Ford Ranger twice.
Mutambwani jumped into his vehicle, joined by his wife, and drove off.
Mukomberi sustained minor injuries and was referred to hospital for medical attention.
