HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa named three new Deputy Commissioner Generals of the Zimbabwe Republic Police as he made 56 senior promotions.
Mnangagwa forced dozens of senior police and intelligence officers out after coming to power through a military coup in November last year.
The police chiefs, including former Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri, were seen as loyal to the deposed former President Robert Mugabe.
The promotions, which took effect on December 7, were revealed by Commissioner General Godwin Matanga in a media statement on Sunday.
Senior Assistant Commissioners Elliott Mind Ngirandi, Learn Ncube and Lorraine Chipato were promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner General.
Four Assistant Commissioners Partson Nyabadza, Kudakwashe Mubemi, David Mahoya and Chrispen Charumbira joined the rank of Senior Assistant Commissioner.
Mnagagwa also promoted 15 Chief Superintendents to the rank of Assistant Commissioner, while elevating 34 Superintendents to the rank of Chief Superintendent.
