HARARE – Scottland and Herentals posted wins on Sunday to join a congested pack at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Khama Billiat set up Knowledge Musona for the opener before Panashe Mutimbanyoka doubled the lead before halftime as Scottland overwhelmed CAPS United 2-0 at the National Sports Stadium, a match the sports ministry used to test the venue’s facilities as renovation works continue to bring it into compliance with FIFA standards.

The win lifted Scottland to 28 points, level with CAPS United, Herentals and Hardrock, who drew 0-0 away at MWOS on Saturday.

Herentals claimed the scalp of FC Platinum at Mandava thanks to Liyeto Dreamer’s first-half goal. Defender Nickson Nyasulu’s routine clearance inside the box went badly wrong, allowing Dreamer to ghost in behind and fire past Raphael Pitisi.

Highlanders continued their creep towards the summit, beating Hunters 2-1 at Barbourfields. Andrew Mbeba’s free-kick delivery was headed home by Marvin Sibanda in the second minute, and Benjamin Adeogun extended the lead in the 63rd.

Eli Elunga’s stoppage-time reply gave the finish a frantic edge but Benjani Mwaruwari’s side held on. The victory leaves Highlanders six points off the pace on 22 points.
