HARARE – Four Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) soldiers died on the spot when a military vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident along the Harare-Mutare road on Friday.

The ZNA said the four were aboard a BAW military vehicle travelling from Harare to Mutare when the accident occurred at the 45km peg at Broomley at around 4PM.

The deceased were identified as Warrant Officer Class 1 Philimon Chamisa, Warrant Officer Class 2 Lydia Chindowa, Sergeant Wellington Wonder Mundicho and Lance Corporal Edmore Mupemhi.

Three other soldiers were injured in the accident. Two were admitted at Marondera District Hospital while the third was taken to 2 Referral Hospital at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, formerly KG6. All three are said to be in a stable condition and receiving treatment.

“The ZNA extends its deepest condolences to the families, relatives, friends and colleagues of the four members who lost their lives in this tragic accident. May their souls rest in eternal peace,” ZNA director of public relations Colonel Hlengiwe Dube said in a statement, adding that the army wished the injured members a speedy and full recovery.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police Marondera District Traffic Section is investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
