JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Nellie Tembe, the 22-year-old fiancé of the superstar rapper AKA died on Sunday after falling from the 10th floor of a Cape Town hotel, reports said.

The death was being investigated as a suicide.

Western Cape police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said: “Cape Town central police are investigating an inquest case after an incident at a hotel at about 7:45AM at the corner of Loop and Bloem Streets in the Cape Town CBD. The body of a 22-year-old woman was found deceased.”

AKA had posted pictures on Saturday night from a Cape Town nightclub. The couple was at the hotel as part of the celebrations for one of the rapper’s friends, according to the Daily Sun.

A leading South African tabloid Sunday World reported that Nellie was “suffering from depression.

The newspaper referred to an incident in November last year when it says a video of Nellie circulated showing her attempting to jump off a Hilton Hotel.

“AKA has been reportedly helping her to deal with depression and even got her into counselling,” the Sunday World reported.

AKA and Nellie only got engaged in February. The rapper broke news of the engagement on Instagram, writing: “21/02/21 – love of my life said Yesssss.”

The pair have been sharing intimate moments on their social media pages over the last year.
