HARARE – Dynamos have sacked coach Herbert Maruwa following the club’s 0-0 draw with Hwange on Sunday.
The club also announced the suspension of assistant coach Murape Murape and manager Richard Chihoro.
Assistant coach Genesis Mangombe has been handed temporary charge.
The Dynamos board announced Maruwa’s exit on Tuesday, despite chairman Moses Maunganidze saying only a day earlier that the coaches had been given a five-match ultimatum to turn things around.
Maunganidze said their ambition was to win the league.
“Going into the second half of the season we are saying we still have a chance to win the championship mathematically. So we believe that the results in the next five matches should be clear, and show that the team is going in the right direction,” he said on Monday.
“As Dynamos we were clear in the beginning of the season that we are vying for the championship and we still believe it’s possible. So in the meantime, we wouldn’t want to see the gap between us and the table toppers increase.”
Dynamos are fourth in the league table after 18 matches of a 34-game season.
Maruwa was appointed Dynamos head coach in December last year, replacing Tonderai Ndiraya.
He built his coaching career during a five-year spell as head coach of Black Rhinos, before the move to Dynamos to work as a juniors coach. He was later drafted into the first team coaching staff by Kalisto Pasuwa in 2014.
