HARARE – Norton MP Temba Mliswa will take a public HIV test on Tuesday as he battles claims of rampant unprotected sex with teenage girls.
Mliswa is taking the unusual step after he was accused on Twitter of infecting young girls with the virus, which causes Aids.
“Public HIV test in response to recent unfounded social media allegations,” Mliswa said on Twitter Monday.
The HIV test is to be conducted at the Media Centre in Harare by the New Start Centre in conjunction with the National Aids Council and the Ministry of Health and Child Care, he said.
“The public HIV testing is more about turning negative social media into an awareness campaign against the stigma that is clearly still prevalent in society against those living with HIV/Aids. Laws must be enacted against those who knowingly infect partners with the virus,” Mliswa said.
“The importance of early detection, knowing your status & acting responsibly can’t be overemphasised enough.”

Mliswa was accused on Twitter on August 31 by an individual using the name @tindomai, who claimed the lawmaker had infected her friend with HIV.
The individual claimed Mliswa had infected their friend, one Eugenia, with the virus.
