BULAWAYO – Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) youths in Bulawayo have have accused Zanu PF of attempts to trigger a “second Gukurahundi” through allegedly sponsoring recalls on party legislators and councillors by self-appointed party interim secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu.
At a media briefing in Bulawayo Thursday, CCC Youth Taskforce National Administrator Pashor Raphael Sibanda threatened resistance against alleged attempts to decimate the opposition representation in Bulawayo.
Tshabangu has targeted a lot of Bulawayo MPs in his ongoing recalls.
Sibanda, who was also targeted for the recalls, likened the act to government sponsored massacres in Matabeleland in the early 1980s in what is commonly referred to as Gukurahundi.
“As the governing party given the mandate by the people to lead and take the country forward, we want to send a very clear and straight forward statement that we are the now and the future of this country,” Sibanda said, adding, “We won’t allow or let any barbaric organisation formed and governed in Harare to try attack and despise the will of the people specifically here in Bulawayo province.”
He said, “we are aware of Gukurahundi but we won’t allow the second Gukurahundi in our province”.
“As the young people, we are ready to defend, advance and secure the future of generations to come,” Sibanda said.
As youths in Bulawayo, he said they were willing to take action against Zanu PF if the siege on the opposition party persists.
“We want to send a clear message to the regime to reform as a matter of urgency and let the will of the people be respected and protected.
“Failure to do so, the streets shall be the avenue of our struggle.
“If the regime continues harassing our people; if the suffering in Zimbabwe continues as it is, we will democratically and constitutionally hold them to account by any means necessary and unnecessary, we are ready to defend and die for this country.
