BULAWAYO – A Bulawayo man who allegedly failed to take in his girlfriend’s bold admission she was five months pregnant from another lover reacted by striking her head with an iron bar leading to her instant death.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

According to police, Obvious Velani Sibanda, 26, admitted that on Monday, 5 January, he knocked off duty at 5PM with the now deceased Nothabo Ncube, also aged 26.

The two were co-workers.

The couple headed for Sibanda’s home in Emakhandeni where a quarrel arose over Ncube’s alleged infidelity.

Sibanda, in his own account of events, according to police, said he asked the now deceased about a frequent contact number on her cell phone, saved as Gift.

She allegedly admitted Gift was her second boyfriend who was also responsible for her pregnancy.

This did not go down well with Sibanda who admitted retrieving an iron bar from behind the door and using it to strike Ncube once on the head leading to her falling unconscious.

Even in her unconscious state, Sibanda continued to strike her head resulting in her instant death.

He then telephoned his parents informing them of the incident.

Later in the same evening, Sibanda went and handed himself over to the police.

Ncube’s body was conveyed to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) mortuary for postmortem.

Following the shock incident, police urged the public to desist from violence during marital misunderstandings.
