HARARE – Former Zimbabwe coach Wieslaw Grabowski died on Wednesday in Poland aged 70.
Grabowski was credited with scouting some of Zimbabwe’s top players while owning Darryn T in the early 1990s.
He was appointed coach of Zimbabwe’s Under 23 national team for the 1995 All Africa Games where stars such as Gift Muzadzi, Alois Bunjira, Edelbert Dinha, Lloyd Chitembwe and Norman Mapeza burst onto the scene.
The Young Warriors came second, taking the silver medal.
He briefly took charge of the senior team in 2002.
Journalist Steve described Grabowski as an “extremely colourful and outspoken character.”
Grabowski’s death comes after former national team coach Roy Barreto passed away on Portugal last month at the age of 72.
Barreto coached Zimbabwe Saints and Highlanders before a spell with the national team, part of which he was assistant to the legendary Reinhard Fabisch.
