THE MDC Alliance increased and tightened its security at Saturday’s rally at White City Stadium following a bomb explosion that rocked a Zanu PF rally on June 23.

White City Stadium had been a crime scene since the deadly explosion that killed two presidential security aide. The bomb, now established to be a Russian-made hand grenade, missed President Emmerson Mnangagwa by seconds but Vice President Kembo Mohadi and 43 other people were wounded. Mohadi is still undergoing treatment in South Africa.

Police are still not closer to arresting a suspect or solving the mystery of what happened on that day.

The MDC Alliance was taking no chances on Saturday when its leader Nelson Chamisa arrived to address his final rally at the multi-purpose sports facility.

Everyone entering White City was searched while some sections were cordoned off by tape, including where the VIPs were seated.

Access to the VIP tent was restricted with security details closely eyeing everyone, including journalists.

ZimLive.com counted over 10 details who stood guard around the stage, while over two dozen others moved about during the rally.

A drone also hovered above the crowds, providing a real-time video feed of proceedings to TV monitors.

Last week, the MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe said it had cancelled its rally at White City, claiming its supporters were too scared to go to White City.
