HARARE – Two Parirenyatwa Hospital patients were Tuesday treated for injuries sustained during a freak ceiling collapse incident in one of the referral hospital’s wards.
In a statement confirming the mishap, the government hospital said the two patients were treated for minor injuries.
“We would like to confirm the occurrence of an unfortunate incidence in the Physician’s Bay today (13/09/22) in the early hours of the morning,” said the hospital.
“A small part of the ceiling in one of the cubicles unexpectedly fell on two of the patients under observation in the cubicle.
“Both patients were immediately examined by our doctors.
“They sustained minor injuries and got appropriate treatment. The patients were eventually discharged home following completion of their initial observations.
“We would like to unreservedly apologise to the affected patients and their families. The hospital has already started the process of repairing the ceiling.”
The incident, while being an accident, has added spotlight onto the country’s deteriorating health delivery facilities widely shunned by the country’s leaders.
Recently, a South African government health official launched a fierce diatribe against a bedridden Zimbabwean patient who had crossed the Limpopo to seek treatment in the neighbouring country.
