CHIMANIMANI – Two minors aged 4 and 1 year, six months died Monday while the third, a 3-year-old, was injured in a tragic fire incident at a Chimanimani village.

Police confirmed the incident Tuesday.

“The ZRP confirms a fire incident in which two female juveniles aged 4 and 1 year 6 months died while another female juvenile, 3, sustained burns after one of the victims lit fire which razed a grass thatched bathroom to ashes at Chikona Village, Chimanimani on 6 November 2023,” police said.

The victims, according to police, had been left playing by their grandmother who had visited a family garden.

Police said bodies of the victims were taken to Mutambara Mission Hospital for postmortem while the injured victim was admitted at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.

The incident follows another sad one late last month in which two Shamva minors – Kudakwashe Magombo, 4, and Kuzivakwashe Koffi, 3 – suffocated in their grandmother’s car after they had locked themselves inside while playing in the absence of their parents.
