BULAWAYO – A 45-year-old Bulawayo man was shot and injured Tuesday by an unidentified suspect who had visited his home seeking a room to rent.

Police in Bulawayo identified the victim as Nhlanhla Nkomo who was shot in the stomach by his assailant at his Pumula home.

The incident, according to Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube, took place at around 7pm on Tuesday.

Inspector Ncube said the suspect got incensed and opened fire after Nkomo said he could not offer him accommodation as there was no vacant room at the time.

“The accused asked the complainant for a room and the complainant told him there was no room to rent,” said Ncube in a statement.

“The accused person then asked the complainant if he knew where he can get a room to rent and the complainant replied him that he had no idea.

“The accused person was infuriated and pulled out a pistol from his trousers pocket, pointed at the complainant stomach, and fired one round and shot the complainant once the right side of the stomach.

“The complainant screamed for help and the accused person fled away into the darkness.”

The complainant sustained a bruise on the stomach.

Meanwhile, the police recovered a 7,6 mm spent cartridge at the scene.
