Ngezi Platinum 3-1 MWOS

NGEZI – MWOS’ fairytale start to life in the Premier Soccer League got its first major examination on Sunday as Ngezi Platinum ended their 16-match unbeaten run.

The defeat at Baobab Stadium allowed Joel Luphahla’s Simba Bhora to leapfrog them and top the table by a single point after a battling 1-0 victory away at Yadah.

Lloyd Mutasa’s men had not tasted defeat going into the match with Ngezi, but they were behind and very much in trouble within two minutes after Obriel Chirinda put the hosts ahead.

Billy Veremu restored parity for MWOS after 19 minutes and the teams went to halftime level.

Ashwin Karengesha fired Ngezi ahead after 55 minutes before Chirinda secured the points with his second after 73 minutes.

At the Heart Stadium in Harare, Blessing Moyo found the top corner with a beautiful second half freekick to end Yadah’s resistance and send Simba Bhora to the summit.

Triangle were Sunday’s biggest winners with a 5-1 thumping of Greenfuel while CAPS United made light work of whipping boys Kwekwe United with a 2-0 victory at Rufaro.

Highlanders and Chicken Inn drew 0-0 in a drab match at Barbourfields.

Meanwhile, the Premier Soccer League said Dynamos and FC Platinum have been referred to the disciplinary committee after the abandonment of their match at Mandava with the teams level 1-1.

Dynamos led through Vusa Ngwenya after just five minutes when he firmly met Temptation Chiwunga’s beautifully flighted cross from a freekick with his head.

The hosts drew level shortly after halftime when Shadreck Nyahwa’s headed backpass to his goalkeeper Prince Tafiremutsa was intercepted by Thando Ngwenya who slotted into an unguarded net.

The moment of controversy arrived on 74 minutes when Dynamos players walked off on the instructions of their coach Saul Chaminuka in protest over a penalty awarded to the home side by referee Qedisani Dirwai.

Oscar Bhebhe made a surging run into the Dynamos box on the left flank but went down under the challenge of Emmanuel Jalai.

Dynamos face heavy sanction from the league, and the three points look likely to be awarded to the home side.
