BULAWAYO – A man who escaped from a coronavirus quarantine centre is now wanted for murder following the knife killing of a 31-year-old Bulawayo man who caught him stealing.

Police are hunting for Mandla Moyo, also known as MaFifty, after he stabbed Nkosilathi Ndlovu in Luveve suburb and fled at around 7PM last Saturday.

Police believe Moyo fled from a quarantine centre in Beitbridge after testing positive for the coronavirus while returning from South Africa, where he lives.

He went to Ndlovu’s house on the pretext that he was looking for a tenant who lived there.

At one point, he requested to use the toilet, but instead went into Ndlovu’s bedroom, according to Inspector Abednico Ncube of Bulawayo police.

Ndlovu allegedly observed Moyo from a window reflection stealing his phone, a wallet and some groceries including cooking oil and body cream, which he stuffed in a big coat he was wearing.

When Ndlovu went to confront him, police say Moyo pulled a knife and stabbed him in the abdomen before fleeing into the night. Ndlovu died moments later from excessive bleeding.

Neighbours said Moyo grew up in the area and had a violent streak.

Before Ndlovu’s killing, he boasted that he killed his landlord in South Africa
