HARARE – A homeless man faces rape, indecent assault and robbery charges stemming from an incident in which he allegedly took two Rainham Farm sisters hostage for the good part of the night on October 8 and subjected them to the horror.

Kelvin Munashe Manyika Tuesday appeared before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa who remanded him in custody after advising him to approach the High Court for bail.

State prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti told the court that before Manyika raped the victim, he threatened her and indecently assaulted the woman by pushing a knife into her privates.

According to court documents, Manyika broke into the complainant’s house in Rainham Farm where she was sleeping with her younger sister.

He was armed with a pair of scissors, catapult, four knives and ordered the complainants to surrender their cell phones.

He then tied the complainant and her younger sister’s hands with a rope.

“The accused took the complainant’s younger sister out of the house and also tied her legs and left her outside.

“The accused got back into the complainant’s house and took his other victim to a nearby bushy area.

“The accused threatened to kill the complainant with a knife before he instructed her to lie down on the ground facing upwards,” read the court documents.

The complainant instead tried to wrestle herself free from his grasp.

Manyika allegedly tripped and pinned her onto the ground before inserting a knife into the victim’s privates and raping her once without protection.
