BULAWAYO – Two suspected rustlers were arrested Wednesday after detectives were tipped off over a truck that was driving towards Bulawayo along the Beitbridge-Bulawayo highway while loaded with 19 cattle.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

Edmore Bibi, 46, and Farai Phambukani, 28, both from Bulawayo’s Emganwini suburb were intercepted while transporting the livestock in the small Matabeleland South town of Esigodini.

Ncube said the suspects were first spotted by the informant in Insiza, Matabeleland South but vanished.

“The two were arrested after they were spotted at Insiza area by an informant who tried to stop them, but they fled driving towards Bulawayo.

“The informant then followed them phoning police officers in Bulawayo Central which led to the arrest of the accused persons.

“Upon search, it was discovered that the duo had 19 herd of cattle where 13 were cows and 6 were oxen and they had no permits for transporting the livestock,” Ncube said.

Two of the beasts later died while police were still holding them as exhibits.
