HARARE – An 18-year-old youth is among six suspected fraudsters who were recently arrested at the Robert Mugabe International Airport after being caught in possession of cloned credit cards.

Tererai Chakanyuka, 18, was arrested together with Fungai Samurewo, 35, Frank Chikoto, 36, Clever Manhombo, 40, Pardon Muwungani, 28 and Takudzwa Chikohora, 26.

The suspects all appeared before Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje charged with unauthorised use and possession of credit or debit card.

The suspects were remanded in custody awaiting bail hearing.

The State, represented by Tawanda Nyandoro, claims the six were arrested at the airport after police received a report they were in possession of a firearm.

When the police arrived, they realised that the alleged firearm was an air gun with an empty magazine.

However, upon doing a body search, police reportedly found fake bank cards and instruments that are allegedly used to commit fraud.

“The accused persons were searched and were found in possession of two surgical blades, 7 bank cards, super glue and cigarette lighter which are items used in the commission of fraud cases.

“The first accused person (Samurewo) was found in possession of a Visa card with a tampered chip and one money debit card and a visa debit card bearing the name Talent Kisimusi.

“Accused 3 (Manhombo) was found in possession of a Steward bank card, a tampered bank card bearing the name Wenyika Micheal.

“Accused 4 (Muwungani) was found in possession of 2 surgical blades, 1 used super glue and a tampered debit card bearing the name Mukunguma Courage and another tampered  debit card bearing the name Kuuzabuwe G.”

Upon being interviewed they failed to give a satisfactory answer resulting in their arrest.
