HARARE – A MAN who poisoned his three children and then tried to kill himself by consuming the same substance has appeared in court charged with three counts of attempted murder.
Enock Marimo, 38, of Dzavara Village in Domboshava survived the self poisoning, but the children are all in a critical condition at Makumbe Mission Hospital, a Harare magistrate heard on Wednesday.
Marimo was not asked to plead and was ordered to apply for bail at the High Court during a brief appearance before magistrate Milton Serima.
The court heard that Marimo hatched the triple murder and suicide plan after a row with his brother, Claudius, and his father, Nhau Marimo, on July 11.
On July 12, he took the three children – whose ages were not given in court – to the local shops where he bought them soft drinks each.
Marimo, said Sebastin Mutizirwa for the prosecution, spiked the drinks with termite poison and gave the children to drink.
The children all immediately got sick and locals rushed them to hospital.
Marimo, who also took the same poison, was seen by doctors and discharged, but the children suffered a worse reaction.
