BULAWAYO – Bulawayo’s Central Business District and surrounding areas have been hit by a second power outage in as many months, and ZESA warned on Tuesday that fixing the fault could take days.
Traffic lights in the city centre were not working, and many businesses switched to generators.
“The outage was a result of a fault at higher voltage than last month, hence the widening of the radius of the affected area,” ZESA’s acting general manager for the western region Engineer Lloyd Jaji said.
“Efforts to identify the fault are underway. In the meantime, last night we used an alternative route to pick-up the affected clients. Unfortunately, the alternative also tripped early this morning.”
Jadi would not say when power would be restored, but warned it could be days before the CBD is reconnected.
Last month, it took more than a week to restore power.
Affected suburbs included North End, Emhlangeni, Mahatshula and Paddonhurst. By midday on Tuesday, some of the suburbs had their power restored.
