HARARE – Two more suspects were arrested on Thursday while 17 more are being hunted by police investigating the brutal attack on elderly supporters of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in Murehwa.

Police launched an investigation after a video circulated showing Zanu PF thugs attacking elderly supporters of the CCC who were holding a meeting at Morris Seremani’s homestead in Bhunu village under ward 4.

The mob which allegedly drove to the village in branded Zanu PF vehicles , flogged the gathered CCC supporters while filming the beatings.

Seremani, his wife Susan, 56, Nyaradzai Chitauro, 52, Sekuru Dongo, 79, Munyaradzi Dongo, 38, Beauty Chikoti, 52, and Chipo Mutizwa, 37, were later treated for injuries from the attack.

The two suspects arrested by police on Thursday are 34-year-old Paul Kachigu and Dignity Nadzo, 31.

National police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “Investigations are underway to account for the other suspects.

“As we speak now, we are looking for 17 other suspects. The details and allegations against them will be revealed in court.”

Earlier this week police announced the arrest of 67-year old Never Chimutashu, a resident of Bhunu village in Murehwa North where the violent incident occurred.

The CCC claimed Chimutashu  was the local contact person for the thugs who allegedly planned the attack from the Zanu PF office in Murehwa. He is accused of pointing out the Seremani homestead to the militia.
