LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Zimbabwe’s national netball team has qualified for the 2019 Netball World Cup being hosted in Liverpool, England.
Zimbabwe, whose team is called the Gems, beat Kenya 58-41 on Friday to secure the fourth and final World Cup slot for Africa – their first ever qualification.
The top ranking African side, South Africa, were already through and are now joined by Uganda, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
The World Cup will be held from July 12 to 21.
Before claiming Kenya’s scalp, the Zimbabweans had seen off Botswana, Namibia and Zambia, who are hosting the African Championships/World Cup qualifiers.
Zimbabwe take on Uganda – who top the table at the qualifiers – on Saturday to decide the African champions.
Uganda has 314 goals and this means Zimbabwe with 278 has to beat the East Africans with a 37-goal margin to take the Africa title.
