BULAWAYO- Four people were killed and 40 others were injured on Monday after a bus rammed into a tractor 34km from Masvingo on the highway to Mbalabala, police said.
The driver of a Govasberg bus travelling from Gweru was allegedly attempting to overtake a slow-moving tractor when he encountered oncoming traffic. In a bid to return to his lane he drove into the tractor which was pulling a trailer.
National police spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the accident occurred at around 11AM.
“Four people were killed,” he said.
Accident scene pictures showed an overturned tractor with its wheels up while the bus appeared to have gone off the road and a came to a stop between trees.
Survivors said the bus driver was speeding.
