BULAWAYO – THE Premier Soccer League has banned, with immediate effect, wearing of any political party regalia at its football matches.
In a communique, the league’s chief executive officer advised the ZRP as well as individual clubs’ security officers not to allow any fans wearing political party regalia into any of its matches.
Zimbabwe is in election season, with elections slated for July 30.
“This serves to advise all football fans that political party regalia is not allowed at Castle Lager PSL matches. We urge all clubs, security officers and the Zimbabwe Republic Police to ensure that no fans wearing any form of political party regalia or clothing with political messages are granted access into the stadia,” read the statement from Kennedy Ndebele.
He further advised that league matches initially set for the weekend of July 28-29 have been postponed to August 4-5.
“We further advise that there will be no PSL matches on the weekend of 28-29 July 2018. The Castle Lager PSL programme will resume on August 4-5, 2018,” read the press release from the league.
The postponement of the matches will mean fans will wait a little bit longer for the biggest match on the domestic season, the meeting between Highlanders and Dynamos who were meant to collide at Barbourfields Stadium.
